Yevshan Ukrainain Dancers

According to Ukrainain folklore, the scent of a magical herb called the yevshan, had the power to transport the soul of the wanderer to his homeland, and to remind him of his home and heritage.

The Yevshan Ukrainian Dancers began in 1979 and are made up of a group of enthusiatic performers ranging in age from 4-18. Their instructor and choreographer is Kaitlyn Kruk.

The Yevshan Dancers have performed at numerous venues in BC (such as at the Pacific National Exhibition, the International Children's Fesival, the Dragon Boat Festival, and in Victoria and the Okanogan), many locations and events in the Fraser Valley (such as the Western Canada Summer Games, Abbotsford Canada Day Celebrations, yearly Malanka celebrations) and elsewhere, such as the Pysanka Festival in Alberta, the Folklife Festival in Seattle and the Folkdance Festival in Leavenworth, Washington. The Yevshan Dancers are medal and trophy winners at BCs annual Ukrainian Cultural Festival held annnually in Mission.

Practices are held every Tuesday evening (from September - May) at The Abbotsford Ballet Studio (#10 - 34100 South Fraser Way). Dancers are divided into groups depending on age, attitude, attendance and ability.
